News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Dozens of Sisters Elementary School students have been developing a green thumb through the Sisters Elementary School Garden Club and its greenhouse program.
The program is so popular that it has outgrown its greenhouse space. According to club representative Vonda Soliz, Central Oregon Pole Structures has offered to build the club a new pole barn valued at $20,000 that will accommodate the club’s activities. The club will pay $5,000.
However, the City of Sisters is requiring a building permit application fee totaling $1,200, which the club says it can’t afford to pay.
Soliz asked the Sisters City Council on Thursday, March 9, to waive the fee. The request got a positive response from Council President Judy Trego, but the full council will discuss the request in a coming workshop.
