Softball returns eight players to varsity squad

The Sisters High School girls softball team will return eight players to the varsity squad, including three seniors, Cindy Harp, Cortney Metcalf and Michaela Bennett.

Harp (catcher and Team Captain) will return as the Lady Outlaws’ leading hitter and will hit clean-up. Last season Harp had a batting average of .285.

Metcalf will play second base.

“Cortney is a smooth fielding second basemen and should hit high up in our batting order this year,” said McDonald. “

Bennett will hold the back-up pitching position.

Other returning varsity players are: juniors, Becky Bremer (shortstop), Courtney Overstreet (utility), Katie Hughes (center/short-stop), and sophomores, Sam Stoneback (pitcher) and Camille Pederson (first base).

“All these girls have worked hard in the off-season and will play key roles on the team,” said McDonald.

Stoneback received all league honorable mention last year as a freshman and will be the Lady Outlaws’ starting pitcher again this season.

New to the team this year are juniors Jennifer Friend (outfield) and Kyra Kolln (outfield), sophomore Brenna Mooney (outfield) and freshmen Hillary Renz (outfield) and Jenna Sneva (outfield).

McDonald said, “Our newcomers will add athleticism and speed to the team.”

Last year Sisters finished at 4-11 (fifth place) in conference and 5-17 overall and hope to do better this season.

“We hope to finish in the top four in league and make it to the playoffs,” said McDonald. “The Capital Conference is a tough softball conference but with some hard work and determination we just might make it. Our offense will be improved and we should be solid defensively.”
