Women explore complexities of health

A small group of perhaps a dozen women kicked off Sisters’ first annual Women’s Wellness Series with a gathering at Sisters Movie House on Saturday, March 11.

Dr. Carol Sisson discussed the interplay on thoughts, emotions and actions in the development of a healthy, balanced life, while nationally recognized “health intuitive” Karen Kassy presented her methods of insight into life, health, relationships and careers.

Ross Kennedy of Sisters Athletic Club presented health testing to help set goals.

“It was a small, intimate group, so the experience was wonderful,” said event organizer Jacquie Zanck.

Zanck, who is herself a personal trainer, said each attendee took away from the seminar different insights “depending on their own particular journey.” The wide range of the program meant that a participant could come away with new physical fitness goals or new spiritual awareness — or both and many things between.

“Everybody was very moved by it,” Zanck said.

Zanck said the seminar related to her experience as a trainer, in which each individual has different needs and approaches to learning and understanding.

“All of a sudden you find one thing that empowers them and they walk away a different person,” she said.

For her, that is the great satisfaction of organizing such an event.

Zanck recognized that the first seminar was small, but she has much larger ambitions.

“The goal is for (the series) to become an event to bring women together for mind body and spirit,” she said.

Zanck believes this event can be part of developing Sisters as a destination for health and wellness-related activities and events.

The Women’s Wellness Series continues on April 8 and May 6, with seminars on nutrients, turning your bathroom into a spa, yoga, Feldenkrais and heart health.
