Local artist designs 2006 rodeo poster

A poster designed by Barbara Berry of Sisters has been selected as the official poster for the 2006 PRCA Sisters Rodeo. A prize of $3,000 was awarded for the winning design, according to Bonnie Malone of the Sisters Rodeo Association.

“We had 22 entries in the contest, making the final selection difficult,” Malone said. “Other entries will be on display during rodeo week, June 4-11, at Navigator News on East Hood Avenue in Sisters. Some of that artwork will be available for purchase.”

Over the years, Sisters rodeo posters have been popular with rodeo fans as a reminder of the exciting events and performances.

This year’s poster depicts a saddle bronc rider making his ride with mountains in the background. A jury appointed by the rodeo board of directors reviewed entries and the board made the selection from finalists. The artwork will be used to promote the 2006 Sisters Rodeo.

Berry works primarily in acrylic. Her work is displayed at Soda Creek Gallery, Folk Arts, and Angeline’s Bakery in Sisters, plus Mirror Pond Gallery and Blue Spruce Gallery in Bend. She has had exhibits through the west including Arizona, Colorado and California.

Berry has been active in faux finishing, creating artwork on walls and furniture in homes. She has taught art classes at Central Oregon Community College and has lived in Sisters for the past 10 years. Her Web site is barbaraberry.com.

Prints of the poster will be available for purchase by the end of March with prices announced at that time.

“Posters will be sold at Leavitt’s, The Culver House and the rodeo office in Sisters, plus at Big R in Redmond and The Spotted Mule in Bend,” said association board member Ron Alexander. “People also can call me at 420-1061 after April 1 to purchase the print.”
