News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Diane Shelly of Sisters died on March 29, 2006.
She was born in Aberdeen, Washington to Gene and Loraine Crane on June 8, 1943. She graduated from Centennial High School in Gresham in 1961. Later that same year, on Thanksgiving Day, she was married to her high school sweetheart, Terry Shelly.
They lived in beautiful Wallowa for many years during the 1970s. She had fond memories of her time there and the relationships she made. The family moved to Prineville in 1978. Diane and Terry had three children and she created a loving, healthy and happy home. All the kids’ friends enjoyed spending time in the warm atmosphere of the Shelly house. In 1989, they moved to Sisters.
Diane began working for the Crown Company in Portland after high school. As her family grew, she dedicated herself to caring for her family full time. However, she stayed active volunteering for the schools and various other organizations while she raised her family.
Diane began volunteering for the Sisters School District as a library aide in 1989. Through many years of hard work, determination and exceptional support from her peers she worked her way up to business manager for the district. She loved the people she worked with and built special relationships with many throughout the district.
Over the years Diane found enjoyment in being with family and friends, flower gardening, creating various arts and crafts projects, decorating, reading, travel, dancing and music.
She is survived by her mother Loraine Noteboom of Bend; children Leslie Waetjen of Prineville, Ty Shelly of Tokyo, Japan and Allison Shelly of Bend; grandchildren: Luke and Chayla Waetjen of Prineville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters Schools Foundation and Central Oregon Home Health and Hospice.
A private memorial will be held at Diane’s request.
