News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Guy Mount, shooting guard for the Outlaws boys varsity basketball team, and Jenny Boswell, wing for the girls varsity team, were both selected all-state honorable mention this year.
Coach Rand Runco told The Nugget that Mount is an incredibly disciplined young man who really loves the game of basketball and that the award was well-deserved. This past year Mount broke the three point shooting record for Sisters High School and was a Capital Conference first team selection.
“Guy really made himself into an excellent basketball player. At a very early age I would see Guy riding his bike down Three Creeks road with his basketball, heading to the outdoor courts in the summertime. He found any place with an open court to play and found a place to shoot almost every day. In high school he played basketball year around, going to camps and playing summer ball with the team. Along with being very coachable he really paid his dues and his work paid off.”
Runco added, “Guy has one of the most beautiful shots that I have ever seen. He is a superb shooter and an all around ball player. Guy was never the biggest, tallest or strongest player on the court, but his hard work made him invaluable. He’s the kind of person that is fun to cheer for and what high school sports should be about.”
Boswell caps off a brilliant basketball career at Sisters High School by being selected to the honorable mention all-state team. Boswell has been a unanimous first team all-league selection for the past two years and ends her career as the all-time leading scorer.
Coach Bill Blevins told The Nugget that Boswell spent countless hours in the gym and weight room developing herself into a first-class athlete.
Blevins said, “It has been a true pleasure to coach a person such as Jenny. She has such a tremendous work ethic and is a fierce competitor. I am so happy for the individual accolades that she has received this year — it is a statement to the sacrifices that she has made and to the overall success of the program as well.
“Jenny has been a very unselfish player — perhaps to a fault,” Blevins added. “I personally would have liked her to be a little more selfish but she is the consummate teammate and wants everyone to be involved. People with Jenny’s characteristics don’t come around all that often and I consider it a privilege to have coached her over the last four years. I look forward to seeing her compete at the college level next year.”
