Harriet Rickerson Eisenbeis

Harriet Eisenbeis died April 9 of natural causes. She was 91.

Private services were held at Deschutes Memorial Gardens in Bend; her grandson, Jason Eisenbeis, of Mobile, Alabama, officiated.

Born Harriet Jane Rickerson on July 15, 1914, in Bellingham, WA, she was the daughter of Hugh Craig Rickerson and Margaret (Green) Rickerson. An education major, she attended Western Washington University and graduated from the University of Washington, where she also earned a master’s degree in mathematics. She was a competitive tennis player and a member of Gamma Phi Beta.

In 1939, she married Sidney Wallace Eisenbeis, her husband of nearly 67 years.

After her husband’s service in World War II, the couple settled in Portland, Oregon, and later Lake Oswego, where she was a schoolteacher and member of Lake Grove Presbyterian Church. She retired from Forest Hills Elementary School in 1977. She and her husband became part-time residents of Sisters in 1967 and moved here permanently in 1995 until poor health required them to move to Bend in 2003. She was a member of PEO and enjoyed knitting, reading and bridge.

Survivors include her husband, Sid; a son, Craig, of Sisters; a daughter, Jain Wilson, of Bend; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Remembrances are suggested to Oregon Public Broadcasting to further education programs for children.
