News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
St. Charles Foundation’s award-winning Expanding the Vision Through Photography community outreach project will be exhibited April 28-May 26 at Sisters Art Works and 5 Elements Healing Arts Center in Sisters.
The center is located at 204 W. Adams Ave. The public is invited to attend an Artist’s Reception on Friday, April 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. Sisters photographers and project participants Hadley McCann and Brent McGregor will give brief presentations about their project experiences documenting the Emergency Room and Air Life of Oregon at 6:15 p.m.
The project was recently named a winner in the 2006 Blair L. Sadler International Healing Arts Competition. The project will be recognized at the Society for Arts in Healthcare’s 15th annual conference on April 27 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois.
“‘Expanding the Vision Through Photography’ was a unique way to bring artists into the hospital to document through their own personal style what happens on a daily basis here at our community hospital,” said Bridget McGinn, Project Coordinator. “We asked the photographers to spend time with caregivers, patients and families to really understand the nature of healthcare and our healing environment at St. Charles.”
A major goal of the project was to foster dialogue among viewers about their own personal experiences with healthcare.
“As we look at the images and read the words of the photographers describing their project experiences, it sparks conversations and memories about our own hospital experiences,” said McGinn. “The images provide a way for our community to connect with St. Charles, to help people feel more comfortable with and proud of the role the hospitals in Bend and Redmond play in our lives.”
