News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Outlaws tracksters avoided the mid-season blues in meets at Cascade and Springfield last week by producing very competitive marks.
The sun shone at Tuesday’s dual meet at Cascade, which may have been the inspiration for some great efforts by the Outlaws. While both boys and girls teams lost to the host Cougars, some notable breakthroughs took place.
Discus throwers Taylor Davenport and Jeff Sampson went 1-2 with personal bests of 122 feet 3 inches and 120 feet 11 inches respectively. Sampson also placed second in the shot put with a toss of 41 feet 7 inches.
Sophomore Bryan Snow came through with a clearance of 10 feet in the pole vault to place third.
Eli Callan was the only other Sisters boy to win at Cascade, with victories in the 100-meter hurdles (16.3) and 300 hurdles (44.1).
Stefan Redfield had a pair of second-place finishes, including a season best in the 800 meters (2:07.5).
Freshman Benton Urquhart placed second in the 3000 (10:26.3) and Kelly Crowther was the runner up in the 400 (54.7).
Among the girls, Cali Ulmer and Kelsey Neilson both cleared 4 feet 10 inches in the high jump, and freshman Aubrey Cretsinger was second by inches in the triple jump (29 feet, 5.5 inches). Tiffany Martin nabbed a second place in the 200 (29.0) and freshman Kirsti Burck did likewise in the pole vault at 7 feet even.
Jenny Boswell remained undefeated on the season, claiming the 400 meters (62.0) and the 300 hurdles (48.25). She also joined MacKenzie Williams, Tiffany Martin, and Jena Rickards in winning the 1600 meter relay. Earlier, Rickards had placed third in the 800 in her best time of the year at 2:38.8.
Ryanne Conrads led a 1, 2, 4 finish by the Outlaws in the 3000 in a time of 12:42. Courtney Johnson ran her best time of the year to place second in 13:24.4.
Friday’s twilight meet at Springfield included six 4A teams along with 3A Cottage Grove, which provided the Outlaws with solid competition in every event. Jenny Boswell was the only event winner among the Sisters girls and boys, but there were again some big breakthroughs for the team.
Boswell won both hurdle events in commanding fashion, beating the runner-up in the 300 hurdles by over two full second (47.4) and the second place finisher in the 100 hurdles by a full second (15.8).
Tiffany Martin tied for second in the 200 (28.9) and Ryanne Conrads ran personal bests while placing in both the 1500 (5:27.7) and the 3000 (12:24.7). Kaitlin McAlister had a season best in the 3000 as well at 12:41.9.
Kirsti Burck, in her first varsity level 100-meter race, took fifth in 13.8 and Anna Pepperling and Cammy Jacobson took third and fourth respectively in the pole vault as both cleared 8 feet.
Cali Ulmer cleared the 30-foot mark in the triple jump to place sixth at 30 feet 3.5 inches to go along with her fifth-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet 8 inches.
For the boy’s team, Eli Callan continued his consistenthurdling, finishing third in the 300 intermediates at 43.2 and Stefan Redfield enjoyed the luxury of running only one distance race, finishing a strong fourth in the 1500 meters in 4:27.1. Andrew Legg matched his best 800 time, finishing seventh in 2:10.3.
Jeff Sampson and Taylor Davenport both improved significantly in the shot put as Sampson finished fifth at 42 feet 10 inches and Davenport had a three foot personal best to finish ninth in 39 feet 6 inches.
Ben Mansker took second in the pole vault at 10 feet six inches to edge teammate Dom DeLeone who ended up fifth at 10 feet in wet conditions.
Benton Urquhart challenged everyone to a fast pace in the 3000 meters finishing sixth in 9:46.6, which was his personal best by over 20 seconds. Lucas Glick ran his best time as well at 10:17.5.
