News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys lacrosse team soundly defeated Summit 9-1 at home on Wednesday, April 26. The weather was perfect — warm and sunny and one of the best days we’ve seen in Sisters this spring.
A large crowd gathered to cheer on both teams and to enjoy one of the fastest growing sports in Central Oregon.
Coach Bill Rexford said, “Tyson Edmundson played a beautiful rendition of the national anthem on his horn, then passed the horn to me, strapped on his equipment and got ready to play lacrosse.”
Edmundson scored the first goal of the game to get the Outlaws started.
“Tyson was the first to shine,” said Rexford, “but many Outlaws enjoyed the day as we controlled the ball in the first half by winning five of seven faceoffs and thwarted the Storm’s attempts to clear the ball.”
Summit responded with aggressive play and tried to knock the Outlaws off the ball but unfortunately for the Storm, this resulted in many penalties.
Sophomore Galen DeLeone and freshman Jordan Kolb played in their first varsity game. Rexford told The Nugget that both DeLeone and Kolb contributed immensely to the winning effort.
Rexford said, “Thad Anderson only let in one goal and cleared the ball effectively with long precise outlet passes. The defense, led by Mike Hernandez, Trevor Summers and Emory Myer were relentless and for the most part kept the Storm from getting off many quality shots. At the midfield, Jeremy and Jacob Evans were ground ball hogs and Todd Bell and Nick Pepperling controlled the pace of the game.
“Today was the boys’ best effort to date. They have been working hard and it was great to see all the little things we have been working on begin to pay off on the field. From end line to end line all these guys played for a full 48 minutes and when you work hard good things happen.”
