News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
A peace dove created by Sisters Middle School students was the largest entry in the Bend Earth Day parade on Saturday.
The Sisters Middle School contingent led by teacher Carol Packard represented the Jane Goodall Institute Roots & Shoots Club, Sisters Branch, an environmental organization.
The dove was handmade by Camille VanNest and her mother Antionette and Holly Thornton and her mom Sue.
After flying the dove in the parade, the students worked in the Roots & Shoots booth at the Earth Day Fair, helping fellow club member Austin Hicks teach children how to make pinecone birdfeeders to take home.
