Softball team snaps its losing streak

The Lady Outlaws softball team fell 8-2 at home to Molalla on Tuesday, April 18 for their fourth straight loss this season. But they turned their tough times around later in the week to beat North Marion.

In the earlier contest, Molalla took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

The highlight of the game offensively for Sisters came in the bottom of the second inning. Cindy Harp singled and Courtney Overstreet followed with a double to right field to knock Harp in. Katie Hughes hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Overstreet and the Outlaws took a 2-1 lead.

The Outlaw lead didn’t last for long. The Lady Indians scored three more runs in the third, three in the fifth and added their final run in the sixth inning to earn the 8-2 victory.

Sam Stoneback pitched the entire game for the Outlaws.

“We played better defense which kept us in the game early on,” said Coach Doug McDonald, “but their offense combined with their all league pitcher (Becca Anderson) shut us down.”

Anderson had 13 strike-outs in the game.

On the flipside, errorless defense was the key in the Lady Outlaws’ 6-3 victory at North Marion on Thursday, April 20.

Sisters knocked in three runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Outlaws added two more runs in the fifth to push their advantage to 5-0. North Marion answered in the bottom of the fifth with two runs of their own and narrowed the Outlaw lead to 5-2.

Sisters scored its final run in the sixth and North Marion added their final run in the seventh. The 6-3 win snapped Sisters four-game losing streak.

Three Sisters’ players, Cindy Harp, Camille Pedersen and Sam Stoneback, all went three for four at the plate. Harp and Pedersen both had two RBI. Courtney Metcalf had a double.

Stoneback pitched the entire game, struck out six batters and allowed six hits.

The Outlaws are currently 2-6 in league and 5-9 overall.

“The five victories tied our mark from last year and we still have seven games left to break it,” said Coach Doug McDonald.

The Outlaws will face two tough teams next week. Sisters will play at Cascade on Tuesday, April 25 and host Stayton on Thursday, April 27.
