News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters golfer Scott Barton earned medalist honors with a four-under-par 68 to lead Sisters to a Capital Conference victory at the Santiam Golf Course on Tuesday, April 25.
Warm, sunny, 70-degree weather provided ideal conditions for the Capital Conference match. Sisters shot a 328 to take first place. Cascade was runner up at 331 and Stayton took third at 338. Remaining scores were: Sweet Home (351), Molalla (355) and North Marion at 379.
Evan Mitchell carded an 83 for his best round of the season. Mitchell has been getting help on his golf game from his dad, Bill, who’s a PGA professional.
“My dad’s been helping me with my swing, chipping and putting and it’s helped my game a lot. Every time I’ve gone out I’ve gotten a better score,” said Mitchell. “Our team is doing great. I think we can win districts and if we play like we’ve been playing we could do fairly well at State.”
Other individual scores for the Outlaws were: Miles Johnston (88), Billy Jacobson one stroke back at 89 and Kyler Miller at 107.
Coach Jeff Barton told The Nugget the course was a bit of a challenge for a few of his players who were playing it for the very first time.
“We played well enough to win but not up to our potential,” said Barton. “We’ve improved overall during the season and no one else in the Capital Conference has. We just need to stay focused, keep the ball in play and keep our mistakes to a minimum.”
Sisters’ next match was to be at Black Butte Ranch on Tuesday, May 2. Districts will be Monday and Tuesday, May 8 and 9 at the Arrowhead Course in Molalla.
