News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Nashville singer songwriter Tyler James will be joined by Rachael Cantu and Oregon’s own Joshua Rosen for a benefit concert at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 8, at Sisters Coffee Company.
Opening the show will be Travis Ehrenstrom, Raman Ellis, Benji Nagel and Justin Veloso of Sisters.
The funds will aid the ministry efforts of Kelly Moen and Eli Pyke of Sisters, who will be traveling and working with missions in Uganda and Tanzania this summer.
Moen is not a stranger to Africa. In 2003, she spent four months serving in four different ministries in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
“In many ways, its hard not to hate it there, as you are faced with physical poverty, suffering, disease and death on every side,” said Moen.
In the face of all this she has fallen in love with the people and culture and has made a commitment to return on a regular basis for the rest of her life. She attributes this to a desire to live with an accurate perspective of the world. She plans to revisit villages and an orphanage she worked with on her previous trip.
This will be Pyke’s first trip to Uganda. The Sisters High School alum has a degree in Intercultural Communication and has done documentary film work in Europe and South America. He currently works for Rage Films out of Bend.
Tickets will be sold at the door at a price of ten dollars for adults and five dollars for students. Sisters Coffee Company is donating 50 percent of that evening’s profits to the benefit.
