News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Elizabeth Grace Larson of Sisters Elementary School took first-place honors in her division in a Humane Society Poster contest.
Local celebrities cast their votes on Monday evening, May 8, at the Humane Society of Central Oregon for the annual “Be Kind to Animals” poster event. The judges chose the winners from the 230 finalists’ entries that are on display at the Bend Humane Society on 27th Street through May 20.
The judges considered theme interpretation, creativity and presentation when evaluating the poster entries.
The goal of the Humane Society of Central Oregon is to promote awareness and education regarding proper care and humane treatment of all living things. Themes for each grade level included lifetime commitment of animals, proper identification, pet overpopulation and basic needs of animals.
All finalists will receive a ribbon, as well as the first, second and third place winners. In addition to the ribbons, McDonald’s of Bend donated gift certificates for a free ice cream cone for all finalists.
First place winners will also receive a custom identification tag for their pet from the Humane Society.
