Sisters Rotary Club wins awards

The Sisters Rotary Club won two awards at the Rotary International District 5110 Conference held May 4-6 at the Florence Convention Center.

The first award, The Presidential Citation, was presented to Club President-Elect Scott Pillar and Past Club President Gerald “Jerry” Bogart for the club’s “exemplary achievement in community, vocational and international service.”

“We were told that we were one of the few clubs in the district to qualify for the citation so, while it was a great honor, it wasn’t much of a surprise,” Pillar said.

What was a surprise, however, was the second award: A first place award for Outstanding Community Service Project.

“We were shocked. We didn’t know we were even in the running for an award,” said Bogart.

The Outstanding Community Service Project award was presented for Veterans Park at the west end of town. The dedication of the park is planned for May 26 at 11 a.m.

“This is really a community award,”said Pillar, “While the Rotary Club coordinated the project, many people have their hands in the park. We are happy to accept the award on their behalf as well.”

The Sisters Rotary Club is part of Rotary International, a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000 clubs in 168 countries.

The Sisters Rotary Club has 37 members and meets every Tuesday at noon at the Best Western Ponderosa Lodge.
