Sisters shoppers discover Fab Faux

Shoppers who like to wander off the beaten path will be well rewarded when they trek down to the west end of Hood Avenue. There, at the corner of Hood and Cottonwood, they’ll find a store called Fab Faux.

Inside the store is a treasure trove of faux jewelry — necklaces, chokers, bracelets, rings and pendants inspired by designers such as David Yurman, John Hardy and Tiffany.

The store is owned by Herb and Beverly Davidson. They brought the business with them when they moved from the tiny coastal town of Pacific City. Beverly’s daughter is expecting a baby soon and the prospect of being close to the grandbaby precipitated the move.

The idea for such a store came to Beverly when she traveled to Arizona a few years ago with a friend. They’d found a faux jewelry store in Scottsdale and were inspired by the jewelry they saw there. With advice from the helpful owner of that store, she set up shop in Pacific City. The jewelry comes from distributors who supply a thriving faux market.

Customers are tourists passing through looking for a lovely trinket and travelers who don’t want to travel with their valuable items. Some bring along a bit of the real thing and mix it with faux, said Beverly.

The Davidsons are small-town folk, appreciating the sense of cooperation found in thriving small towns. For example, they’re working with Linda Montgomery, owner of Sisters Log Furniture on Cascade Avenue, to gain a bit more exposure for the Fab Faux jewelry. The Davidsons will set up a booth on an outside portion of Montgomery’s property, catching more foot traffic with a few examples of their goods and enticing tourists to travel the extra block or two down to Hood Avenue.

A portion of the Davidsons’ customers are repeat and word of the shop is spreading in Sisters.

“We’re getting customers from the valley who would come to us in Pacific City,” said Herb. “Now they’re coming to Sisters.”

The Davidsons are building a house within the Sisters city limits and are looking forward to playing their part in the community.
