The Outlaws’ softball season came to a close with a 10-0 loss at Stayton on Monday, May 15.
At season’s end Becky Bremer led the team with a .384 batting average.
“Beck put a ton of time in this off-season and it certainly paid off,” said Coach Doug McDonald.
Camille Pedersen’s two home runs against Culver and Sam Stoneback’s record of six wins were a couple of the season’s highlights.
McDonald noted the brilliant play of Katie Hughes at center field and the solid play of Courtney Overstreet at third base.
McDonald said, “It was another building year for us. We had a young team, but were led by three fabulous seniors: Courtney Metcalf, Cindy Harp and Michaela Bennett. Each contributed four years of hard work to the softball program and left it a better place. We’ll miss them.
“I was particularly proud of our new players — freshmen Hillary Renz and Jenna Sneva, sophomore Brenna Mooney and Jessi Heath and junior Jen Friend,” added McDonald. “All had great attitudes and contributed positively to the team.”
McDonald added, “I also appreciate the work of assistant coaches Chris Peters and Mike Renz, as well as head JV Coach Matt Macauley. We were a bit undermanned this year and all of us put in a lot of hours to give the girls the reps they needed. Chris Peters’ continued generosity to our program was a blessing. He built us an indoor batting cage and he and Matt put in a ton of time on our fields.”
