News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters Blaze U-12 competitive soccer team went undefeated in spring soccer.
The team won its last game 4-0 against the DAFC Cyclones.
The Blaze had a great defense throughout spring league play, shutting out the last three game opponents anchored by Brennan Layne, Freddy Gonzalez, Cody Lane, Brett Prey and Scott Nelson.
The best game of the spring league was a 1-0 victory against the Pumas, a traveling team from Madras. Taylor Steele scored the solo goal. With a great offensive pressure from Jake McAllister, Amity Calvin, Marisa Haynes, Devon Calvin, Timmy Hernandez, Jared Early, Gabe Rietmann and Mason Calmettes, The Blaze was able to control the possession time.
In transition, Ari Barker and Ryan Long, along with other forwards, were able to keep the ball in the opponents half of the field. Keenan O’Hern and Cody Lane traded time in the goal.
The Blaze just finished a full year of playing together competitively. The team played over 53 games. The team started out slow in last year’s summer tournaments, yet continued to build as a team and it began to show on the field.
The team finished the year on a strong run of 25 wins, six losses and four ties.
A new team has already formed and is looking stronger than last year’s run. The support of the parents has been incredibly strong, according to Coach Doug Early.
“Without the dedication of the players and parents this program would not be where it is now,” he said. “The players have bonded and united through thick and thin. It is what makes a team develop. We are going to play in four tournaments this summer, one in Medford this Memorial Day weekend and play a traveling schedule in the fall throughout Oregon.”
Some of the games this fall will be played in Sisters.
“I would love to see this team in a few years in high school playing together,” said Early. “Come on out and support us this fall.”
