News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Some major changes and happenings will bring a new look to the 66th Sisters Rodeo.
“One big change is the placement of an instant replay screen that will allow spectators to review action from the arena,” said Glenn Miller, president of the Sisters Rodeo Association. “This is being sponsored by Sisters Oil and The Hitchin’ Post and should be a real attraction for our rodeo fans.”
Another improvement is the removal of the 30-year-old bleachers behind the bucking chutes near the announcers’ stand, said rodeo board member Bonnie Malone. “These bleachers have been removed and new ‘plaza’ seating has been installed,” she said. “The new seating consists of nine patio sections of two levels each, each section to seat 20 people.”
The view from the new section is only four feet behind and nine feet above the chutes, giving spectators a close-up look of preparations, the ride, and the aftermath. The plaza also will have a catered barbecue and light fare buffet for ticket holders. The seating has been very popular with rodeo fans and almost all has been sold for the four performances this year. Several trees have been removed from this area giving Gold Section ticket holders a view of the scoreboard.
One thing hasn’t changed besides all of the exciting performances and entertainment, Malone said.
“Parking is free for all performances,” she said.
Tickets are still available with prices ranging from $10 to $15. Children 12 and under are admitted free for Friday night’s performance while children five and under are admitted free in some sections for Sunday’s performance. Special group rates are available on Sunday. Order tickets at the rodeo office at 220 W. Cascade Ave. in Sisters or by calling 549-0121 in Central Oregon or 800-827-7522 out of the area.
