Rodeo trick riders love Sisters’ response

Their performance at last weekend’s PRCA Sisters Rodeo won the admiration and applause of rodeo fans at all four performances of this 66th annual event. Just as impressive is the fact that the fans’ response overwhelmed Susie and Shane Karson.

Entertaining as Team Karson, Shane and Susie Karson from Seiverville, Tennessee, performed trick riding feats the likes of which have seldom been seen in Sister. Reminiscent of stunts from “B” Western movies and rodeos of the 1950s and 1960s, Team Karson followed breathtaking act with breathtaking act.

Presenting two shows at each performance, Shane opened the first by doing shifts in the saddle at full gallop, first off each side and then front to back. Susie followed riding her horse while hanging on each side and doing the “Statue of Liberty” by standing with her arm outstretched while riding at full speed.

While most trick riders perform a Roman riding act while balancing on top of two horses, Shane did his act with three horses, weaving between flaming torches. He ended by sending all three horses at a full gallop around the area while he perched precariously standing on their backs.

But there was more than the fans saw.

“When I rode out of the arena after our first performance on Friday night, I was almost crying, “ Susie said Saturday while taking a break. “We have performed at many rodeos all over the country for the past 2-1/2 years and we have never had such a reception from the fans.”

Tears came to her eyes as she described that feeling, which was echoed by Shane.

At Sunday’s performance, she spoke to the crowd for the first time. Once again, she choked up as she thanked the fans for their response.

Team Karson will appear later this month at the Crooked River Roundup in Prineville and again at the Mollala Buckaroo. One thing is for sure; they will be coming back to Sisters.
