SOAR will host summer activities

SOAR (Sisters Organization for Activities and Recreation) District has a variety of activities planned for teens grades 6-12 this summer. Weekly activities will be held at the SOAR Teen Center.

This summer SOAR has three AmeriCorps volunteers who will be working in the Teen Center to organize all kinds of great programs. The AmeriCorps volunteers are Kate Pazdan, Brian Lann and Alisha Tolstoy.

The SOAR Teen Center is designed to be a safe, supervised environment where teens are allowed to drop in between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to play games or get involved in activities. There is no fee for the Teen Center and participants may come and go throughout the day.

“This summer there are several planned and supervised activities, at low or no cost, for teens,” said SOAR director Carrie Ward.

These include: trips to Juniper Swim and Fitness Center and Sun Mountain Fun Center, a hot dog roast, game days, “lake days” and a weekly Teen Movie Night. Some trips have limited space; register in advance.

On June 19, SOAR will host an Ice Cream Social from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the SOAR Community Center to mark the summer kickoff. The Ice Cream Social is a family event and all teens and their families are welcome to come and enjoy some free ice cream and meet the Teen Center staff and volunteers.

For more information call the SOAR Community Center at 549-2091.
