SOAR receives more than $91,000 in grants

The SOAR (Sisters Organization for Activities and Recreation) District has received more than $91,000 in grants to support various youth programs.

The district received grants from:

• Special Districts Association of Oregon — $750 — Safety Grant.

• Juan Young Trust — $5,000 — Youth Development and Leadership Program.

• The Herbert Templeton Foundation — $5,000 — Youth Development and Leadership Program.

• The Roundhouse Foundation — $950 — Summer Americana Project.

• Sisters Rodeo Association — $1,000 — Scholarships.

• Deschutes County Board of Commissioners — $35,000 — Skatepark.

• Commission on Children and Families — $25,000 — Tutoring and pre-school programs.

• Kiwanis Club of Sisters — $7,500 — Scholarships, skatepark and operations.

• City of Sisters — $5,000 — Scholarships.

• Weitzman Family Foundation — $5,000 — Operations.

The SOAR Recreation District depends on a variety of funding sources each year to fund operations, programs and special projects like its proposed skatepark.

“We want to thank and recognize the hundreds of individuals, organizations, foundations and businesses that contribute to SOAR each year. Without this generous support we would be unable to fulfill the mission of SOAR,” said Carrie Ward, Executive Director.

“This list of grants only reflects the support we have received from foundations and organizations and not the many gifts received each year from individuals and local businesses,” said Ward.
