Show goes on in Sisters during fire

Business might have been off in Sisters last weekend due to the Black Crater Fire (see story, page 1), but the old show business adage that "the show must go on" played out at Aspen Lakes Golf Course.

Aspen Lakes Golf Course did not cancel its free golf clinic and Sunset Serenade on Sunday evening.

"Every time we have a Sunset Serenade event, we give an hour free golf clinic," said Grant Cyrus, Aspen Lakes General Manager.

On Sunday, head golf professional Derek Johnson and assistant golf professional Tom Lowen worked with about 20 participants on the full golf swing.

Later, amidst ash falling from the sky and with the scent of smoke filling the air, concert-goers relaxed to the music of native Oregonian Lindy Gravelle.

Gravelle, a country singer with a blues flavor and sharp wit, writes much of her own music and lyrics.

Gravelle resides in Redmond and regularly performs at Eagle Crest Resort.

Aspen Lakes' next Sunset Serenade will be on Sunday, August 27, featuring folk duo Doug and Katie Cavanaugh.

The Americana music act Anvil Blasters perform on September 24.
