Sisters Kiwanis Club members recently donated $3,300 to community projects. In addition to previous donations this year, the club has provided a total of $28,500 to local groups and organizations.
The club approved the following donations:
$1,000 to the Think Again ParentS (TAPS) program to help pay for ads and Town Hall Meeting to reduce the use of alcohol and drugs by underage youth.
$350 to the Sisters High School softball program for signs for the new softball field.
$450 to SOAR for signs for a new Disc Golf Course.
$1,500 to SOAR for the Sisters High School/Tollgate Trail Project for purchase of materials to continue completion of the trail.
Other funds distributed earlier this summer included $7,500 in scholarships to seven Sisters High School seniors.
The Jim Mitchell Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 was awarded to Tiffany Martin. The scholarship is a tribute to Mitchell for his dedicated service to Kiwanis, Youth, Community and family.
Martin was also the recipient of another $500 scholarship from Kiwanis.
Other recipients of $1,000 were: Michelle Hurilet, Maureen Broadbent, Courtney Metcalf, Elyse Clasen, Ashley Ladd and Chad Horning.
Other community organizations receiving donations from the Kiwanis Club of Sisters this year include: COBRA, FAN, the new Cliff Clemens Park, Leukemia Assn., HOSPICE, City Sign, Head Start Reading Program, Healthy Beginnings, Little Cloverdale Preschool, Sisters High School Grad Party, SMART, Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp, SOAR, Ronald McDonald House, Burn Victim Camps, Camp Fire, Boy Scouts, Skate Board Park, Robotics Club and Hispanic English Learners Program.
