Outlaws return volleyball veterans

The Sisters High School volleyball team will put seven returning varsity players on the court this season. Four seniors are back for their final season: Courtney Overstreet, Becky Bremer, Shalayna Peters and Katie Weber. Also back are juniors Kali Ulmer, Brook Goins and Leslie Zenich.

Coach Chris Crosby said, "We've got seven kids coming back with a lot of talent."

Overstreet is a utility player and will be able to play any position for the Outlaws. Bremer will play libero (a defensive player that can replace others without being counted in restricted substitutions), Weber at setter and Peters as a hitter. Both Bremer and Weber will bring a lot of varsity experience to the team.

Crosby said, "These four kids care a lot about the game. I've watched them since they were in seventh grade. They'll bring varied personalities and all of them have positive attributes to contribute."

Ulmer, a first team all conference player last year as a sophomore, will again be a left-side hitter. Goins will primarily play at the back row and Zenich at the hitter position.

Joining the solid core of veterans will be Rachel Tenneson (junior) and Felicia Pledger (sophomore). Both these girls are 5-feet-11-inches and the tallest players on the team who will play at the hitter/blocker position.

Samantha Stoneback (junior) and Lane Milroy (sophomore and transfer from West Linn) will round out the squad. Stoneback will see time as a setter and Milroy as a hitter/blocker.

"We've got a good, solid, core group of girls returning and we're adding four incredibly talented kids to that," said Crosby. "Right now we're trying to figure out what kind of team we want to be."

"The jamboree this Friday will be a good opportunity for us to see what we're up against this season," said Crosby. "The last couple of years Marist, Junction City and Pleasant Hill have been pretty good, but we've been pretty good in our league too."

The Lady Outlaws will travel to Cottage Grove on Friday, September 1, to participate in the Jamboree which is set to start at 3 p.m.
