News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters has developed some outstanding photographers, and their work will be on display through September in the Sisters Area Photo Club's (SAPC) show at the Sisters Library.
The colorful show features artists Hadley McCann, Sue Anderson, Tom Davis, Kate Keown, Mary Smith, Brent McGregor, Kara Michaelson and other local photographers.
This is part of the "O Sisters, Where Art Thou" event taking place this month in Sisters.
Besides the photo exhibit, speakers will offer photo shows and tips each Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. in the library's community meeting room.
Mary Smith kicks off the series on September 6 with "It's For The Birds," a recap of the last 20 years photographing birds.
Other speakers during September include noted photojournalist Pete Erickson of the Bend Bulletin on September 13; Portland photographer Tom Hassler on September 20; and nature photographer Tom Davis on September 27.
A reception for participating artists is planned on Saturday, September 23 at the library as part of Sisters Art Stroll and features music, refreshments and local photographers.
The public is invited to all of these events. With the rise of interest in digital photography, inkjet printers and archival photo papers lasting hundreds of years, the library show offers a chance to compare film and digital techniques.
The event is sponsored by High Desert Gallery and SAPC. SAPC, which started in 2005, is open to all local photographers - beginners, intermediate and professionals and includes members who work in both digital and film media.
