Twin feasts feed Camp Sherman

Labor Day weekend signaled good eating for residents and visitors at Saturday evening's barbecue and Sunday's pancake breakfast, September 2-3.

The Camp Sherman Store featured the outdoor barbecue event - as it does on all holidays during the summer months. Parking was at a premium for the popular event. Chef Roger White, owner of the store, offered up delicious burgers, chicken or sausage sandwiches with all the trimmings.

This quelled hunger pangs for several hundred diners during the evening.

"I like these events and getting out with the community," said local resident Jack Walker. "I also like hearing some good local talent."

Saturday evening the talent was The Anvil Blasters and their toe-tapping Western melodies entertaining the appreciative crowd.

The feast offered one Metolius Meadows resident his "one wurst of the year." Mort was there with wife Sally and two daughters from Seattle. Robert McLean brought his son Robert, Jr., riding a trike to enjoy the evening.

"He's the youngest resident in Camp Sherman," said Robert of his 25-month-old son.

An extra treat was supplied by Vercingetorix wines with tastings of their Pinots during the evening.

Early Sunday morning, the stoves were lit at Camp Sherman's Community Hall for the annual holiday breakfast. Breakfast eaters were treated to servings of ham, eggs, pancakes, juice and coffee.

"This is a no-cook weekend," said Betty Farm.

The pancake breakfast benefits the Camp Sherman Historical Society. Both events celebrate the Camp Sherman spirit.
