Deputies arrest out-of-control woman

Sheriff's deputies arrested a 55-year-old Crooked River Ranch woman on Wednesday, September 27, after she allegedly tore through town at high speed and struggled with deputies who tried to subdue her.

According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reports, the woman pulled up to the Cloverdale Fire Station on Cloverdale Road on Wednesday afternoon honking her horn and making irrational statements and demands.

The woman approached the station, leaving her car running in the middle of the road. Two fire officers on duty talked to the woman for some time, moved her car into the parking lot of the station and contacted the woman's husband.

However, the woman reportedly bolted, jumped in her car and headed up Highway 126 at an "alarming" rate of speed. The fire officers called police.

A deputy located the woman's red Ford Taurus and tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the woman reportedly ignored his lights and continued speeding up the road.

According to the pursuing deputy, the woman hit Sisters going about 45 miles per hour and increased her speed. The deputy hit his siren, but the woman did not stop. Witnesses reported that she nearly hit a pedestrian.

The deputy later reported that he considered dropping the pursuit due to safety concerns, but the woman pulled into the parking lot at Sisters Market.

The woman reportedly leaped out of her car swearing and screaming and waving her arms and approached the deputy, who tried to calm her.

The woman allegedly continued to advance on the deputy, then turned and tried to get back into her car. The deputy did not want her back on the road, and he grabbed the woman and placed her on the hood of his patrol car and attempted to handcuff her. The woman struggled and according to police reports attempted to grab the deputy's gun. At that point, the deputy pushed the woman down and cuffed her, taking a minor cut to his hand.

Two off duty deputies and a Black Butte Ranch police officer arrived, and it took all four officers to get the woman into a patrol car.

The deputy took the woman to the hospital for evaluation where she allegedly continued to be out of control.

The woman was arrested on charges of reckless driving, assaulting a public safety officer, attempting to elude and disorderly conduct.
