Chamber to host open house in new center

The Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center is hosting an open house at the new location of the Chamber and Visitor Center at 291 E. Main Ave., the location of the old Sisters library.

The open house will run from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 2. The event is open to the public and will feature live music, food and beverages.

The new location of the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center represents a unique community partnership, as the location is also home to the Community Action Team of Sisters and the Sisters Country Historical Society.

"We hope the new location for the Chamber and Visitor Center, CATS and the Sisters Country Historical Society becomes a hub for community activity," said chamber executive director Cheryl Mills.

The first building for the Sisters Library, now known as the Maida Bailey building, named after Sisters' first librarian, is also part of the complex and will serve as the conference/meeting space for community groups. Scheduling for the use of the space will be through the chamber.

Plans are in the works for a historical display for the centerpiece of the visitor's center. The historical display will feature Sisters history, photographs and artifacts collected by the community.

Residents who would like to donate to the display may contact the chamber. Fundraising events will be planned to help defray the cost of the display.
