News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Mollie Edward knows she's off to a late start, but she's making a run for Sisters City Council anyway.
The Sisters resident and activist is making a write-in bid in the November 7 election.
"I would like to see some changes," she said. "I talk about it all the time and I decided to take some action."
Edwards said she would like to see the council listen to the public and put infrastructure in place before more building occurs.
"I believe in growth," she said. "I'm not anti-growth, but I believe it has to be done intelligently and thoughtfully."
Edwards said it never occurred to her to run for council at the start of the campaign season. She participated in the Sisters Future Fair and found it inspirational.
She said that she's always lived on the outskirts of town and now living inside the city limits she realized "I do have a unique chance to make a difference."
Edwards said she would like to see Sharlene Weed stay on the council and Bill Merril be elected.
"As for the rest (Dave Elliott and Lon Kellstrom), yes, I would like to see some change there," she said.
Edwards said she is mobilizing supporters.
"My plan right now is just to notify all the people who support me to help me get the word out," she said. "It is a little late in the day, but I don't feel that it's ever too late for many things."
