Girls soccer team suffers first loss

The Lady Outlaws were shut out 3-0 by the Cottage Grove Lions on Saturday, October 21 in their first loss of the year.

With the loss the Outlaws dropped sole possession of the first place spot in the league and now share that spot with Marist.

Coach Brian Holden said, "We lost our rhythm about 10 minutes into the game and never found it again."

Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, October 17, Sisters defeated Junction City (JC) 6-1.

Hattie Tehan had a hat trick in the game, scoring all three of her goals in the second half.

Mindy Marr scored off a penalty kick in the tenth minute of the game to get the Outlaws on the scoreboard. Three minutes later, Liz Dale headed in a nice shot off a corner kick from Hattie Tehan. McKenzie Williams dribbled through the defense for an unassisted goal at the 37-minute mark to finish the Outlaws' first half scoring. At the half Sisters held a 3-0 lead.

JC opened the second half with a goal to narrow Sisters' lead to 3-1.

Hattie Tehan scored all three of her goals in 11 minutes in the second half. Tehan's first goal came from a Mindy Marr assist. The second goal came when the JC keeper failed to pick up the ball. Hattie was there to follow it in for the finish. Tehan got her hat trick on a nice cross from Katie Taylor and secured the 6-1 win.

Holden said, "I've got to commend Hattie on her goals today. They were really hustle goals. She's been assisting everybody all season long, and today she got to score."

Holden praised midfielders Liz Dale, Audrey Tehan and Mindy Marr for keeping the tempo of the game at a high level. The midfielders controlled the tempo and kept the ball moving quickly.

"I truly believe that if these girls play as well as they did today against Junction City that they'll compete and advance through the playoffs successfully," said Holden.

Audrey Tehan told The Nugget their team is thrilled to be doing so well this season.

"It's so exciting for us to be playing this well, especially in this new and challenging league," she said. "Our team chemistry is amazing, and we all love playing with each other. We all respect each other and work hard for each other. Our new style of play highly contributes to our success. Brian has really helped us all grasp a new and better understanding of the game. It's a balance of fun and hard work during practice and at games.

"And, it's especially fun for me to see Hattie play so well. I love being able to support her and have her on the field with me sharing our team's successes."
