News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Lyn Jacobs, this year's chairman of Art at the Ranch, the annual art sale sponsored by the Black Butte Ranch Art Guild, reports that the guild has donated $3,000 from proceeds realized at this year's sale.
Two thousand dollars was given to Sisters schools and a $1,000 scholarship was awarded. The annual fund- raiser, which has been held for approximately 20 years, took place the first weekend in September at Black Butte Ranch (BBR).
Although the BBR Art Guild does not release the amount of money it earns from the sale, the guild gave $1,000 to Kit Stafford's Arts Discovery class at Sisters Middle School and $1,000 to the elementary school's art literacy program.
A $1,000 scholarship was also awarded to Sisters High School 2006 graduating senior Amalie Lantz.
Jacobs said, "Our criteria is that they are going to study art in college and be enrolled in some sort of an art program."
Lantz is attending COCC in Bend where she is pursuing arts studies.
The original idea behind having the annual Black Butte Ranch Art Guild sale was to provide the guild with a vehicle to raise funds to purchase art for common area buildings at BBR. No new buildings have been constructed at BBR recently, and during the past few years, the guild has been able to funnel the majority of the sale's proceeds to grant scholarships for Sisters High School art students and to fund art related projects at Sisters schools.
With this year's proposed building of the new Welcome Center at BBR, the guild has set aside funds to purchase art for this new facility.
Jacobs expressed her appreciation to all who participated in this year's sale.
