Sisters salutes...

• Bart Baenzinger of Northwest Environmental Consulting wrote:

"I would like to commend The Nugget for last edition's articles regarding the erosion problems on Whychus Creek. You are doing the community a service by educating us about this complex issue.

"We have the opportunity to protect stream-side properties and enhance fish and wildlife habitat, if we make wise decisions regarding development, building codes and stream-side restoration projects.

"I would also like to thank Susanna Julber, City of Sisters Contract Planner and Jack Williamson, Fish Habitat Biologist with Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife for help with the Kennedy project."

"I'd like to praise the City of Sisters and offer congratulations for their great good fortune in hiring Robin, the woman who runs the big mower, totes the deafening leaf blower, wields a paintbrush and swings a shovel. She seems to be everywhere, but she never seems to stop moving, and often she's finishing up after everyone else's gone home.

"When asked, she's full of insight about plants and gardening (but she doesn't stop moving)! In my 18 years in Sisters, our city parks have never looked so gorgeous.

"I'd also like to thank the city for that simple patch of grass at the corner of Larch Street and Black Butte Avenue. As parks go, it hasn't much style, and I used to prefer the much lovelier Village Green or Creekside. But I've come to love that unobstructed flat-slab of grass, for the simple pleasure of jogging and romping with wild abandon, exercising myself and my dogs without fear of smacking into trees, shrubs, pathways or gazebos.

"It's not much to look at, but it's got a large fan club, from others walking pooches (plastic bags in hand), to kids flying kites or playing ball… activities that would be tough in the other parks. With Robin's attention, even it has begun to shine.

"Thank you, Sisters, for all of our wonderful parks and for Robin!"
