News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters High School varsity volleyball team defeated Marist in a tiebreaker for a second place finish in the Sky-Em conference on Thursday, October 26. The game was played at Pleasant Hill, and scores for the match were 25-17, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-20.
In the second game of the match, Sisters trailed 17-21 and battled back for the win.
"The girls played steady all night long," said Crosby. "The defense did a great job, and we extended a lot of rallies. It was a big game for us to win a game like that on the road."
Crosby noted that he only has two seniors on the team and starts two sophomores and one freshman, so the win was a huge confidence builder for the young squad.
The coach noted that Katie Weber did an extraordinary job at the setter position for the Outlaws the entire match. Weber finished the night with 38 assists and 10 kills. Felicia Pledger had 15 kills, and Kali Ulmer added nine.
"We've been running a two quarterback offense, but tonight we had a player sick, and so we had some adjustments to make, and Katie had to set all the way around. She did a great job distributing the ball to all of our hitters," said Crosby.
Two days earlier the Outlaws swept Elmira 25-10, 25-15 and 25-10 in their last league game of the season.
"This match (Elmira) offered us the opportunity to work on some things and try some new stuff in a game situation that we are working on for playoffs," said Crosby. "Our girls were excited to finish the season on a three- match win streak. We hit a little bump around the time of the Marist tournament and Burns match a week ago, and we've been working hard in practice to get back on track."
It was a special night as the team honored their two seniors, Becky Bremer (libero) and Katie Weber (setter).
Sisters will host the No. 3 team from the Far West League on Wednesday, November 1 in the first round of the state playoffs.
