Boys' soccer loses in quarterfinals

The boys' soccer team lost 4-2 to Hidden Valley in the quarterfinals on Saturday, November 11 and was eliminated from the state playoffs.

The loss reflected the rollercoaster nature of playoff competition, following on the heels of the Outlaws' stomping of the La Grande Tigers.

Ryley Newport scored four goals to lead the Outlaws to their 6-1 victory at home.

Fourteen minutes into the game, Ande Phillips dished the ball to Newport for his first goal of the game. Four minutes later, Eli Callan brought the ball up the side and slotted it to Newport, who drove the ball into the net, pushing Sisters to a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers scored off of a free kick in the 31st minute to narrow the Outlaw lead to 2-1.

Sisters answered back with another goal five minutes later when Callan passed the ball to Newport for the finish.

At the half, Sisters held a 3-1 advantage.

The Outlaws stayed focused and started the second half with a bang.

Matt Bryan soloed a goal three minutes into the half. Newport scored his fourth goal of the contest with a nice assist from Ande Phillips at the 10 minute mark of the second half.

In the 75th minute, Jacob Evan scored a solo goal to cap Sisters' scoring and secure the 6-1 victory.

Hummell and several of his players traveled to La Grande on Saturday, November 4 to watch La Grande take on South Umpqua in the first round of the state playoffs.

Though the quarterfinal loss was tough, the Outlaws could take consolation in the fact that their appearance there was the deepest the boys' soccer program has made it into the state playoffs.
