Entries lining up for Christmas Parade

The annual Sisters Christmas Parade is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 25. The event is sponsored by the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce. The parade will take place on Hood Avenue, and anyone may enter. The theme for this year's parade is "Cowboy Christmas."

Sisters Chamber of Commerce Events Director Jeri Buckmann told The Nugget: "Its a local parade, and I get about 35 or 40 entries." Prizes are not awarded, but ribbons are given to everyone who enters.

Bob Buckmann, Jeri's husband, will be this year's announcer. The announcer's box is across the street from Barclay Park on Hood Avenue. As each of the parade's entries passes-by the announcer's box, the entry will stop, and the announcer will say something about the entry to recognize them.

The parade attracts a variety of entrants from horses, to cars, to floats on flatbeds. "We always have the Cub Scouts," Buckmann said. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts also participate. "Some of them just walk with a banner. Sometimes they've been on a float. Sometimes they've pulled wagons," Buckmann said.

Not too many businesses enter the parade, although they are welcome. Several equestrian groups regularly participate. Car clubs also enter. The VW club is entering this year's event and will drive their bug models to sedans down Hood Avenue. The Model A club also regularly enters the parade.

This year St. Edward the Martyr Catholic Church is entering a nativity scene that will be on a flatbed. Buckmann commented that several of the entries have music on the floats, and the group of baton twirlers from Bend will have music with their routines.

Buckmann said, "This year it looks like the high school will be going to the football competition" so the high school band, unfortunately, will not likely be in the parade.

Entry applications are available at the chamber office at 291 E. Main Ave. The entry deadline is Tuesday, November 21.
