News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The girls' soccer team lost 2-0 to No. 1 ranked Oregon Episcopal School (OES) in the quarterfinals on Saturday, November 11. The loss ended a successful season for the Lady Outlaws.
OES scored on a fluke goal 15 minutes into the contest and took a 1-0 lead. Their second goal came at the 30- minute mark. Miscommunication between the Outlaws defense and goalie left one OES player unmarked, which resulted in the goal.
Sisters earned a penalty kick in the 50th minute but was unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
"We dominated play for the entire 80 minutes," said Coach Brian Holden. "We possessed the ball, defended the goal and did everything right, except find the back of the net.
"They should be proud. ... My girls outplayed them the entire game, and it's just a shame they lost. They have nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about."
Holden added, "I've had the most fun with these girls, and I hope they know it. They've put in the extra time for me, and I know I'm not an easy coach."
Four days earlier, on Tuesday, November 7, the Lady Outlaws scored two goals in the final seven minutes of the game to come from behind and defeat Philomath 2-1 at home.
Sisters' battled the entire game in horrible weather conditions, including heavy rain and high winds. Philomath scored early to take a 1-0 lead when Sisters failed to transition back on defense. In the 74th minute McKenzie Williams put the ball in the back of the net to tie the game 1-1.
With two minutes left, the Outlaws switched the ball from the left to right side, and Kelly Morton put the ball in the net to secure Sisters' 2-1 victory.
