Girls' soccer team names all league selections

Nine girls' varsity soccer players were named to all-league teams this year.

Midfielders Audrey Tehan and Liz Dale were selected first team all-league. Tori Carlson, Kelly Morton, McKenzie Williams and Katie Taylor were named second team all-league. Honorable mention went to Annie Hancock, Hattie Tehan and Mindy Marr.

Coach Brian Holden told The Nugget that Tehan and Dale have a tremendous knowledge of the game and are very experienced players which earned them a first team selection. Their leadership on and off the field bonded the Outlaws as a team.

Carlson earned second team all-league as goalie, and Holden said that, in his opinion, she deserved first team.

"Tori really stepped-up this year and became a leader on the field," said Holden. "Her confidence grew and that's why she was so successful in the goal."

Midfielders Morton, Williams and Taylor were also second team all-league selections. Morton led the team in assists this year, and Taylor led the team in scoring with 13 goals. Holden said that Williams was his most versatile player and played every position on the field.

Williams and Morton brought the greatest speed to the team.

Hancock, Tehan and Marr (midfielders) earned honorable mention, and Holden told The Nugget he felt all three of these players were underrated.

"Hattie scored six goals, had six assists and was a workhorse up-front, and Mindy, as a freshman, played a very demanding position to perfection," Holden said. "Last year Annie made first team all-league, and because this year I required her to play a new position I feel she was underrated. She's one of our strongest players in the air and one of our strongest tacklers. I know this wasn't her favorite position, but she played it successfully."

In addition to nine players receiving recognition in the league voting process, first year coach, Brian Holden, was named Coach of the Year.
