News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Becky Bremer and Katie Weber, the only two seniors on the Sisters High School varsity volleyball team, were honored as first-team all-league selections.
Bremer played at the libero position, and Coach Chris Crosby said that every coach in the Sky-Em League would have liked to have had Bremer on his team.
"I am so proud of Becky and so happy that she won this award," said Crosby. "She worked so hard in the off season and was the emotional leader for our team. I think the other coaches in the league could see that Becky really cared about her team and was super competitive. Her libero position basically put a big bulls eye on her jersey every night, and she never backed down from the challenge."
Setter Katie Weber was also named first team all league, and Crosby told The Nugget that she will forever be in his mind in the tie-breaker match against Marist.
Crosby said, "I've coached Katie since she was in eighth grade and always thought she could be a great setter. That Marist match was the best single performance I have ever seen from her, and I have watched her play a lot. Katie is not the type of kid that is focused on personal awards, but it was really special to be able to call her and tell her that she made first team."
Kali Ulmer, who was the only player on the team to play both the front and back row all season, was selected second-team all-league.
"Kali is such a mature competitor for her relatively young age. I think her all-around game helped her get recognized in a very competitive league voting process. Kali is one of very few three-sport athletes in the volleyball program, and every coach that gets Kali on their team at SHS is excited to have her."
Sophomore Felicia Pledger was selected as honorable mention, and Crosby told The Nugget that when all of the opposing coaches were reminded that Fee was only a sophomore they just groaned.
"Fee has such a bright future ahead of her in the SHS volleyball program. As coaches we've been watching Fee grow with great anticipation since she was in fourth grade. It was really great to watch her step in and impact our program from day one this year. We depended heavily on Fee for her strong hitting and net play. She is only going to get stronger, taller and better as she gets older."
