News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Organizers of the Sisters Starry Nights Concert Series report that while they are planning to hold the event in 2007, they are still in the process of confirming artists and performance dates.
"We apologize that it has taken longer than usual for things to come together this year, but I can say that it will be worth the wait once things are finalized," said event co-chair Jeri Fouts. "When we're asking such well-known and busy artists to donate their time, we have to remember how rare a gift it is for them to do a benefit for a local charity like ours in the first place - and then we have to be patient when working out logistics with their management."
She notes that they are in the process of confirming details with several top artists and are aiming for the first show to be in late February or March, with the second show in April or May.
Sisters Starry Nights began in 1997 and features concerts at Sisters High School with headline artists such as Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Kenny Loggins, Lyle Lovett, Lee Ann Womack, Kathy Mattea, Karla Bonoff, Kim Carnes, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Suzy Bogguss, Hal Ketchum, Christopher Cross, David Wilcox and John Hiatt.
In its first nine years, Starry Nights has raised more than $600,000 in net proceeds for the Sisters Schools Foundation and supported a wide variety of programs and activities at Sisters elementary, middle and high schools. The event is organized by a volunteer planning committee comprised of parents, students, school staff and other community members.
