Outlaws wrestlers compete in dual meets

The Outlaws wrestling squad went to the mats in a dual meet at home against Marist on Thursday, December 14 and traveled to another dual meet at Summit on Friday.

In Thursday's match against Marist, sophomore Thomas Schantz came from behind in the third period to pin Allen Harlow. The win pushed Schantz to a 7-3 record for the season.

Both teams were understrength in several weight classes. Sisters had to forfeit matches, as did Marist, which resulted in more exhibition matches than official matches.

"In exhibition matches the coaches try to match boys in different weight classes to account for the experience levels of each wrestler, so that we may end up with more competitive matches than if we had a regular dual," said Coach Jeff Smith.

Sisters won five of the six exhibition matches. Joey Farraggia, Cameron Valdez, Kody Johns, Thomas Schantz and Gilbert Porraz all recorded pins.

In the match against 5A Summit, junior Riley Gilmore (119 pounds) was the sole winner for Sisters. Gilmore finished with a decisive 10-3 win over Tim Murphy.

The Outlaws were forced to forfeit in seven weight categories.

The Sisters' grapplers are looking forward to matches after the holidays when they will return several competitors who will be getting into wrestling shape following a successful football season.
