News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Santa's Elf Christina Fleming, who in real time is the receptionist at Sisters RE/MAX Town & Country Realty, had all of the presents wrapped and tagged in anticipation of Santa's arrival on Wednesday afternoon, December 13.
The occasion was the second annual Christmas party for the children and friends of RE/MAX's agents and clients.
"We have presents for all the kids - and they come and take pictures - and hang out. You know all the kids here are so tight, because it is kind of a family. They all know each other," Fleming said.
The adult party was scheduled for Friday night.
As the children arrived, excitement was high with the anticipation that Santa's jingle bells would soon be heard. No one had to wait long, as soon Michael DeLaRosa entered with guitar in hand and said, "We have to sing a song that will bring Santa out." The children echoed one to another saying "what song, what song?" When DeLaRosa started strumming his guitar and owner Peter Storton started leading the group in song, there was no doubt that only one song was perfect for the moment
Everyone robustly joined in to the familiar lyrics "Here comes Santa Claus, Here comes Santa Claus…" Moments later who was to appear but good old Saint Nick with presents for everyone.
Santa (Jim Bell, an area homebuilder for most of the year) remarked that the jolly old elf is unemployed 11 months out of the year.
"I get to work one month out of the year, and it is kind of a good job. … The smile on all the kids faces is the reason I do this."
Bell commented that he will shave his beard off right after Christmas and start it again in July.
"It comes back whiter every year," he said.
He remarked that he used to get a lot of letters, but now he mostly receives e-mails at [email protected]
