News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
A massage therapist has opened her new business in Sisters Art Works in a suite shared with other healing professionals.
Joanna Lansdale offers a variety of treatments from Swedish massage, prenatal, foot massage and Thai massage. Lansdale said there aren't many Thai therapists in Central Oregon, so she likes to educate clients about the benefits of that style.
Thai massage targets pressure points along the body's energy lines stimulating circulation and lymph drainage while increasing range of motion. The therapist helps move and stretch the body into yoga-like poses.
"It's also a way for people to feel comfortable since they are in loose clothing," added Lansdale.
Lansdale said Thai massage is both relaxing and good for the muscles.
"I think Thai kind of addresses it all," said Lansdale.
Lansdale is known by many pet owners in the Sisters area as the owner of Going to the Dogs pet sitting and walking service. She recently worked to complete her massage therapy license and is keeping busy with both businesses. Both professions require good nurturing and communication skills.
"With both you have to be aware and listen to what isn't spoken," said Lansdale.
Lansdale enjoys working in the Sisters Art Works building in a suite that was formerly 5 Elements Healing Arts Center. Now the rooms in that suite house individual practitioners.
Lansdale shares her suite with acupuncturist Jennifer Johnston. In the other rooms of the downstairs suite are massage therapist Anastacia Scott, Michael Valoppi of Lifewalk Counseling, Lynn Woodward of Woodward Creative and massage therapist Diane Flowers.
"It's nice to know there are other people here putting their energy forward to heal people," said Lansdale.
Lansdale also leaves her suite for house calls which include packages such as the Live Well Package with massages for two and a gourmet meal in the client's home.
"I feel really blessed that I've finally found what I love to do," said Lansdale.
Through January, Lansdale is offering a grand opening special of an additional 30 minutes of free massage with a paid treatment. The various treatments can be seen at http://www.goingtothedogs.bz. Lansdale can be reached at 788-2070.
