Kiki Dolson, organizer of the Furry Friends Pet Food Drive offered "a huge thank-you to Steve Mills of American Nutrition for their 5,000-pound donation of dog and cat food and to Sherry Mason of HARTZ® who donated three large boxes containing dog chews, toys and pet treats.
"Special thanks to Ray's Food Place and Sisters Feed & Supply for their help; to Sisters Veterinary Clinic and Black Butte Veterinary for their treat-bag samples; to Rod Morris of Sisters Storage who donated a trailer; to Naomi Rowe, our Food Bank contact; to David Hiller who brought eight Kiwanians to load the 350-plus bags of food and to Ceili Cornelius who help with labeling bags. Thanks also to The Nugget staff of Teresa, Leith, Starr, Erin, Chelsea and editor Jim C., who volunteered their time to put it all together.
Furry Friends served 297 total animals: 154 cats/kittens; 127 dogs/puppies; four birds; one senior horse; one ferret; six rabbits; four fish; 19 spay/neuter certificates were issued through the Bend Spay & Neuter Project.
A Sisters resident offered "a big thanks to Central Oregon Electrical Cooperative for their help last week."
She said that "on Thursday night a large juniper tree was blown down on my house. It also fell across the electric and TV cable lines but did not break them.
"I called the Sisters fire department because I live practically next door. They came down and looked at it and called CEC for me. Saturday, a CEC crew spent most of the day carefully removing the tree. They had to bring a large crane to remove the trunk, and they did a very good job."
