Country entertainer to perform in Sisters

Country music performer Jim Owen will perform in Sisters next month.

A well-known performer in Branson, Missouri for 16 years, Owen is a noted songwriter, has starred in movies and is regarded as one of the best pure entertainers in the business.

The "Best Entertainer" statement was underscored in 1985 and again in 1987 when Owen was named "Las Vegas Entertainer of the Year." He starred in "Legends in Concert" at the Imperial Palace on the Vegas Strip for six years, one of the longest runs in Las Vegas history.

Owen is also known for his portrayals of Hank William in two PBS television movies. He received an Emmy for his PBS special, and it was voted public television's best show of the year in 1977.

Owen has written many hits, including "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man," made famous by Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, and was runner up for "Songwriter of the Year" in Nashville in 1974. Owen was honored in 2005 when that song was named the number two duet of all time by the Country Music Association.

He has written hits for Jim Ed Brown ("Southern Lovin'"), Mel Tillis ("To Lonely Too Long"), Crystal Gayle ("Sweet Baby on My Mind"), Jerry Reed, Charley Pride, Ernest Tubb, Waylon Jennings, Eddie Arnold, Dottie West and more.

Owen's concert is scheduled for Tuesday, February 13, at 7 p.m. at Sisters Middle School. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students.
