News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
A new city council will take their seats behind the curved wooden dias at Sisters brand-new City Hall on Thursday, January 11.
The council has one new face - Bill Merrill, who secured the largest number of votes in the November election for city council. In addition to Merrill's swearing in, it is expected that Brad Boyd will be elected Mayor by the council, replacing the outgoing Dave Elliott, who lost his seat on the council in the election.
The meeting will be part of a grand opening of the new city hall. City officials and the public will gather at City Hall at 5:30 p.m. Shortly thereafter will be the unveiling of a huge and colorful quilt crafted by Jean Wells Keenan to grace the lobby of City Hall.
The meeting itself, which will start an hour earlier than normal at 6 p.m., will be mostly ceremonial - with the swearing in of councilors and election of council officers including the Mayor.
The only items of business are a public hearing to declare the old City Hall and its furnishings surplus and a motion to donate those furnishings to the newly-incorporated City of La Pine.
