News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Registration starts this week for the Sisters Little League and Softball 2007 season. All participants are invited to pick up a form at the SOAR office or at the league's Web site: http://www.sisterslittleleague.org. (The SOAR building is adjacent to Sisters High School and is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.)
"We're excited with our two new fields this year and to see so many new families in town," said volunteer Player Agent Jenny Jacox. "We are geared up for even more players and teams than last year's record breaking season."
More than 245 Sisters area youngsters played baseball and softball last year.
"With more teams, we will really need more coaches at all levels," Jacox said. "This is a great opportunity to be directly involved in learning to play ball. Any parents interested in coaching should contact League President, Chris Houck, 815-6796."
Early registration began January 16 and runs to February 9. This saves registrants $5 per child.
"Early registration really helps us organize teams, recruit coaches and sponsors and order the correct number of uniforms," Jacox said.
Regular registration is February 10-21. Late registration, February 22-28 incurs a $15 late fee. Registration forms and fees can be returned to Sisters Little League at the SOAR office or by mail.
Everyone who played last year will be getting information and registration materials in the mail, according to Jacox.
Families with multiple players will not pay more than the family maximum of $100. A limited number of financial scholarships are available. Contact Jenny Jacox at 410-0049.
Sisters Little League and Softball generally has six age group divisions: T-Ball, age 5-7; Minor B coach-pitch, age 7-9; Minor A player-pitch, age 9-11; Majors, age 10-12; Juniors, age 13-14; Girls Softball Majors, age 9-12.
Tryouts will be held March 3 at Sisters Middle School. Opening Day games are played Saturday, April 21.
