News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
With the Northern League of the OISRA diminished to just two complete boys' teams, Sisters swept to an easy team victory at its latest meet at Hoodoo Mountain Resort on Saturday, January 20.
The girls had more competition to ski against but still swept the top three places en route to a clear team victory.
Jacob Evan came away with the individual win in the boys' race with a 30-second margin of victory over his twin brother Jeremy. Jacob covered the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 56 seconds. Jeremy finished in 19:26, and Stefan Redfield came through as the third scorer for the Outlaws in 19:40.
The Outlaws had the next six finishers as well as Kyle Rickard (19:46), Parker Bennett (19:57), Nick Rice (20:05), Lucas Glick (21:20), Tyler Elson (21:34) and Mike Calavan (21:34) took the top nine spots ahead of Cleveland's first finisher.
In the girls' race, Molly Blust eked out a one-second victory over teammate Jena Rickards, and Audrey Tehan was just six seconds back, giving Sisters a clear win over St. Mary's Academy, which finished second. Cleveland finished third, and ACMA was incomplete.
Given the fact that racers start at 30-second intervals, Blust was unaware of her slim victory until official results were posted. The fact that she had to sit out last week's meet with a sore hamstring made the win especially satisfying, according to head coach Lee Fischer.
Blust finished in 20:50, followed by Rickards (20:51) and Tehan (20:56).
"The girls are skiing very aggressively and obviously are pretty evenly matched in classic skiing," he said
Erin Kanzig was the only other Outlaw to crack the top 10, finishing seventh in 24:02. The Outlaws will co-host a combined Northern and Southern Division meet at Hoodoo's Nordic area on Saturday, January 27 beginning at 11 a.m.
