Outlaws wrestlers lose to La Pine

The Outlaws' wrestlers lost 13-63 to league-leader La Pine at home on Thursday, January18.

Sisters' already thin line-up was further reduced by an injury, an illness and a grade-related absence. The Outlaws matched up with some of La Pine's better wresters and split the six matches that were contested.

Sophomore Nick Head (135 pounds) stepped forward to defeat Chris Eggleston 9-4 in the highlight match of the evening. Head used an early takedown and near fall to build a 5-0 lead and then maintained that lead throughout the match.

Junior Chris Wright (145 pounds) built an early 8-0 lead in his match with Bryan Manning.

"Chris is generally a defensive wrestler but shot a great double leg takedown at the start of the bout," said Coach Jeff Smith. "He then followed with a couple of cradles and finally pinned Manning with a head and arm. He secured a fall with two seconds remaining in the first period. Hopefully, Chris' success on his feet with a solid opponent will give him the confidence to be more aggressive from the neutral position."

Sophomore Thomas Schantz (189 pounds) continued his winning ways with a 13-2 major decision over Paul Denniston. Schantz dominated every round in rolling to the impressive victory.

The Outlaws will face the Lions at Cottage Grove on Wednesday, January 24.
